Bringing it at Beast

Date Posted: 2/25/2019

Beast of the Southeast has traditionally been an invitation-only tournament featuring the best of the best in the southeastern part of the United States. Over this weekend 18’s also received the opportunity to compete for a bid to nationals in Dallas, Texas. Our Diamond teams, 13-18’s, visited this event in Atlanta, Georgia from February 22-24 and fought amongst the strongest competition in the south.

Teams were guaranteed 6 matches, but none came easy. Throughout the first day, Academy fought hard and 3 of the 5 made it into the Gold Bracket. The remaining 2 teams, 18 Diamond and 17 Diamond, had incredible matches but fell just short. 17 Diamond ended up in a 3-way tie for first in their pool, and had to play a tie breaker match which ended close to 11 pm that first night.

The final day consisted of strong play around the gym, 15 and 16 Diamond went 1-1 finishing 5th overall in their respective divisions. 13 Diamond played a tough A5 team in the semifinals for a 3rd place finish. 14 Diamond was the team to beat throughout the final day, beginning with a win over Triangle 14 Black and a semi-final win against I.C. Stars. The finals for 14 Open was a battle for the 14’s, with Diamond going to 3 sets against A5. In the end A5 came out victorious providing the 14’s with their only loss from the weekend.

Great progress was made by all, as they prepped for MAPL Raleigh the following weekend. Finishes of all teams are found below:
